EFA iShares MSCI EAFE ETF
EFA priced in unidades indexadas
The price of iShares MSCI EAFE ETF (EFA) expressed in unidades indexadas (UI), converted day by day at each date’s USD exchange rate. A way to see how it performed against Uruguayan inflation. Developed-market stocks outside the U.S. and Canada.
Why in unidades indexadas?
The UI tracks Uruguayan inflation. Measuring a dollar asset in UI shows how much local purchasing power it really represents over time: if the curve rises, it beat Uruguayan inflation; if it falls, inflation won.
How is it computed?
We take EFA’s adjusted close (with dividends reinvested, in dollars) and multiply it by that day’s USD→UI rate. We never apply today’s rate to past dates: every point uses the exchange rate of its own day.

Measuring iShares MSCI EAFE ETF in unidades indexadas answers exactly that: if the curve rises over time, EFA beat Uruguayan inflation; if it falls, inflation won. Turn on the “UI bond + X%” on the chart to compare it against a fixed real return.
What is a unidad indexada (UI)?
The UI is a Uruguayan unit of account that adjusts daily with inflation (CPI). As prices rise, 1 UI is worth more pesos, so measuring in UI means measuring in constant purchasing power.
How is EFA’s value in UI computed?
